Braces for Children and Adults
Orthodontics comprises dentistry services for patients of many ages and circumstances. Improving functionality and appearance is not limited to a certain age range. You might require dental alignment at any time in your life.
Orthodontists devote themselves to creating beautiful smiles for their patients. They accomplish this by properly aligning the teeth, jaws, and lips. When teeth become straight, they function better and endure longer.
Braces for Children: Making the Right Choices
It is always best to address orthodontic problems as early as possible. Braces may work more efficiently on adolescents and pre-teens. This is because patients in that age range still experience jaw growth.
According to WebMD, the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) has recommended early evaluation. That means that children should visit an orthodontist by the age of seven. If your child has oral or facial irregularities, talk to your orthodontist.
Braces for Adults: Understanding the Options
Numerous adults choose to wear clear or traditional braces for dental realignment. Nearly one third of orthodontic patients today are over the age of 18. Braces work no matter what age a patient is, but treatment times vary. The time for treatment will be longer for someone with gum disease.
Whether they are metal or clear, orthodontic braces are versatile and predictable. They have a long-proven track record of realigning the teeth successfully. However, an adult should know that the treatment time might be lengthier.
Advanced Metal Braces
The Victory Series™ Low Profile brackets are a sure winner on the patient satisfaction front.
Unlike other conventional and miniature brackets, they incorporate a low profile approach that enhances both aesthetics and patient comfort.
Featuring: Advanced Clear Braces (Advanced Ceramic)
If you are not interested in the appearance of metal braces, consider clear braces. Advanced Clear Ceramic braces are the most advanced variety available. These clear braces offer minimal bracket size for comfort and aesthetics. They are known for their quality and strength.
How Does Orthodontic Treatment with Braces Work?
The orthodontic braces of today are far less conspicuous than previous versions. They are lighter and smaller, and they involve less metal than ever.
Braces are made up of wires, as well as brackets/bands. The bands are placed around the teeth, and they serve as an anchor. The brackets are positioned on the front of the teeth.
Arch wires go through brackets, and they attach to bands. When the arch is tightened, the arch wire applies tension to the teeth. Over time, the teeth move to the right position.
Typically, braces are adjusted on a monthly basis. The desired results may only take a few months to achieve. The intended results can also take a few years. Every patient is unique, and the timing of your outcome will reflect your circumstances.
We usually recommend braces to improve the patient's:
- Crooked teeth
- Crowded teeth
- Uneven spacing
- Undesirable gaps between teeth
- Protruded teeth and/or jaw
- Lack of symmetry of the face
- TMJ symptoms
- Breathing problems
Causes of Teeth Misalignment
- Mouth breathing
- Thumb or finger sucking
- Prolonged pacifier use
- Poor oral hygiene
- Poor nutrition
When children and teenagers are treated, we plan the final outcome to be one of great stability. Many of our patients undergo treatment without the need of extractions, providing a beautiful smile, versus one that is collapsed as seen in treatments done in past decades. This allows for their jaw to have great balance and avoids locking of their jaw. This, in the long run, avoids the occurrence of TMJ problems.
Orthodontics can do so much more that just straighten your teeth. It can help in the treatment of headaches and TMJ problems. Both of these are mainly due to bite irregularities and severe wear, causing many of the muscles of the head to overwork themselves. The consequence is the onset of headache symptoms. Many patients contact us as a last resort to address their problems. As the patient’s bite is reorganized into the right position, muscle strain is alleviated, therefore correcting the source of the headaches.
